Internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd will create the most secure data center in Southwest China's Guizhou province to store important data, said Ma Huateng, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, on March 3.

Ma also said during his press conference at the 2018 NPC & CPC Annual Legislative and Political Advisory Sessions held in Beijing that the data center will install servers several months later.

Early on during the Big Data expo held in Guizhou in 2015, Tencent signed an agreement with Guizhou authorities. The two sides vowed to build a large-scale data center with a low profile, strong security, and high efficiency.

The Tencent Guian Qixing Data Center began construction on June 17 last year. It is expected to cover a total area of 770 mu (51.33 hectares). Highly important data will be stored in a hidden mountain tunnel with three layers of guard nets outside.

With Guizhou's mild climate and ample power sources, the data center will be energy efficient and make use of the latest T-block technology.

The partnership between Guizhou and Tencent is expected to advance the big data industry in the area. Tencent also pledged to more closely cooperate with Guizhou and participate in the coming China International Big Data Industry Expo in May.
