Wei Bo, a Guizhou deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC), pledged to promote local ethnic culture when he attends the 13th NPC in Beijing.
Born and raised in the countryside of Pu'an county in Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, Wei returned to his hometown after finishing his education and started his own business promoting the traditional culture of the Bouyei ethnic group.
He converted the second floor of his house into a workshop producing Bouyei ethnic clothing. For many years, he has been hoping to lead the local people out of poverty.
Now the ethnic clothing products from his home-based workshop have been sold to countries as far away as Russia and Armenia, creating job opportunities for over 300 local families in Pu'an county.
In the next few days, together with other 71 deputies, Wei will attend the Two Sessions in Beijing, representing the 40 million people of Guizhou in discussions of various important issues at the national level.
"I will promote the unique ethnic charm of Guizhou to the whole country, and let the voice of the local people be heard," said Wei.
